HOW DID IT ALL START
Once upon a time, there was a very unhappy housewife named Flossy. She took a great deal of pride in caring for her children and volunteered for the PTA and Sisterhood, but something was missing in her life.
In 1955, Israel (Flossy’s husband) gave her $16,000 to start her own business called Jay Ann. The store had a variety of items ranging from bras, girdles, underwear and fine lingerie. In 1970, the surgical side of the business began due to an increase in breast cancer and surgery.
Since the beginning , Jay Ann has always been a family owned business. Today the business is owned and operated by Farrell Friedenberg (cousin to Flo) and Hope Bear who are sister-in-laws. They have transformed the business and space of ivory and beige to one of color, warmth and energy for every woman, regardless of age or size.
Farrell’s love and interest in art is reflected in the buying and Hope’s passion for women’s issues has grown the surgical side of the business. Together, Hope and Farrell, represent all of the aspects of a successful partnership, but most of all they share a passion and desire to help women feel and look good everyday, in their bodies.
